The actor made it to the headlines back in March 2026, when reports claimed that his wife, Sangeetha, filed for a divorce from him. It was said that the reason for the divorce was the actor’s infidelity with an actress. In the plea, it was mentioned that even after reassuring Sangeetha, Vijay cheated on her by distancing himself emotionally.

For the unversed, Sangeetha was Vijay’s fan. Vijay’s film Poove Unakkaga reportedly began his love story with Sangeetha. The duo met on the set of Love Today, where Sangeetha arrived from all the way to Sri Lanka. Vijay, in an interview, shared that he met Sangeetha and her parents on the set only, and she spoke very well to him, and it occurred to him that she’s a very reserved person like him. Vijay invited Sangeetha to his home, and eventually, his dad said he wanted to talk to him about her, which made him a bit anxious. He said:
“We met on the sets of Love Today. I had come to meet my fans, and that’s when I met Sangeetha and her parents. They spoke very well. Just like me, she is reserved. I later invited her to my house, and my father liked her. When he said he wanted to talk to me, I got anxious.”
Thalapathy Vijay further revealed that his dad asked him about Sangeetha, and he replied that she is a nice girl. To this, Vijay’s father asked him if he wanted to get married to Sangeetha. Vijay was shocked and asked for some time. A few days later, their families met, and they got engaged. Vijay and Sangeetha got married in 1999, and eventually they welcomed their son, Jason Sanjay. It was in 2005 that the couple’s family was completed with the arrival of their daughter, Divya Sasha. Vijay, speaking about how his dad asked him if he wanted to get married to Sangeetha, said:
“But he asked about Sangeetha, and I said she’s a nice girl. Why are you asking? Then he asked if I wanted to get married. I was taken by surprise and asked for some time. Later, our families met, and we got engaged.”
