Popular evangelist, Joni Lamb, who co-founded one of America’s largest Christian networks, Daystar Television Network, died on May 7, 2026. She was 65 at the time of her death. Joni faced serious medical issues, which rapidly deteriorated after a recent back injury heightened her health challenges. However, even amid the dire conditions, Joni was able to spend her final moments at her home in Bedford, Texas. Her untimely demise brought her personal life, including her two marriages, back into the spotlight. Before her death, she spoke about both her first and second husbands, sharing her dynamics with them.
Joni Lamb opened up about her bond with her husband and ex-spouse
Joni Lamb found her second husband, Douglas Weiss, at a time when she was navigating immense grief from the loss of her first spouse, Marcus Lamb. According to PEOPLE, Joni and Doug began dating nearly seven months after Marcus’ death. At that time, Doug served as an oasis in Joni’s deserted life. He added hues of joy to her colourless life and healed her broken self. Speaking about how meeting him changed her life, Joni stated:
“[Doug Weiss] felt like a refreshing rain saturating the drought in my soul and bringing a sense of newness.”
Joni faced significant backlash for finding new love just months after her first husband, Marcus died. The incident raised eyebrows, as the couple had been married for 40 years and shared a deep personal and professional connection. However, Joni defended herself by saying that it was her late husband who would be the happiest on knowing that she found someone to love and rely on after his passing. She stated that she “adored” Marcus, and he would understand her decision to remarry. Regarding Doug Weiss, she mentioned he was the missing piece of the puzzle of her life. Her exact comments on the two men were:
“I always knew no one would be happier for me than my late husband, whom I adored…It’s like Doug was the something I didn’t even know I needed or was missing.”
Joni spoke fondly of her husband, Doug in every opportunity she got. She shared sweet words for him every year on their anniversary and his birthday. In June 2025, she shared a celebratory Instagram post in honour of their second anniversary, calling him her best friend, confidant and favourite human being. Doug was everything she wanted in her man. However, her dream of a forever with him ended with her demise. The anniversary post’s caption could be read as:
“You have brought so much joy and happiness into my life…You are my favorite person, friend, love, and confidante. So trustworthy, kind, and giving.”
What was Joni Lamb’s alleged cause of death?
Joni Lamb’s company, Daystar shared an official statement mentioning her silent fight against prolonged health issues. They also lauded her faith in God and positive mindset, even in the face of hostilities. However, the statement didn’t share the exact ailment Joni was suffering from, which led to her demise. A few hours after the death news got out, an X (formerly Twitter) user, Joshua Simone claimed that Joni’s cause of death was revealed to be bone cancer. When a commentator asked about the source of the information, she shared that she had seen some TV broadcasts about it.
The claim regarding Joni Lamb’s cause of death remains unverified, and official sources have not confirmed it yet. The only information Daystar shared with the public was that Joni chose to keep her health struggle private. The network mentioned that amid her prolonged medical issues, she faced another setback as a new back injury deteriorated her condition. In turn, it created more complications that led to a serious health situation in the days leading up to her death. Despite the attempts from doctors and good wishes from her supporters, her health continued to decline.
