From Lord’s to Edgbaston: All you need to know about Women’s T20 World Cup venues

With an expanded field of 12 teams – the largest ever in a Women’s T20 World Cup – this edition promises to be the most competitive yet as the best in the world vie for the prestigious title.

The 12 teams will be split into two groups of six for the group stage, followed by the knockout rounds and finals.

The 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup will mark the milestone 10th edition of the tournament, which began in 2009.

The most recent edition, hosted by Bangladesh in the UAE in 2024, saw New Zealand claim its first-ever title, defeating South Africa by 32 runs in the final.

That tournament was held between two cities — Dubai and Sharjah. The 2026 will see that roster expand to seven premier venues in England – Headingley (Leeds), Old Trafford (Manchester), Edgbaston (Birmingham), Bristol County Ground (Bristol), Hampshire Bowl (Southampton), The Oval and Lord’s (London).,

The final will be held at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground.

Here’s everything you need to know about these venues ahead of the tournament:

HEADINGLEY (LEEDS)

Headingley Cricket Ground has been home to The Yorkshire County Cricket Club since 1890 and a venue for Test Matches since 1899. The venue can hold close 18,350 spectators.

Don Bradman holds the record for most career runs at Headingley.

Much like other venues in England, Headingley had a number of title sponsors over the years, the latest being Emerald Group which pulled out of the deal due to the racism scandal that rocked Yorkshire cricket.

Old Trafford can support 26,000 fans for international games. That expands when the space is given out for concerts to over 50,000.

OLD TRAFFORD (MANCHESTER)

Old Trafford is a name one usually associates with the famous home of Manchester United Football Club in Greater Manchester, England. But it is also the name of an iconic and historic cricketing venue in the same city which opened in 1857. The venue has been the home of the Lancashire Cricket Club since 1864.

The venue can support 26,000 fans for international games. That expands when the space is given out for concerts to over 50,000.

Old Trafford is the second oldest Test venue in England after The Oval. It is also a very popular concert venue in this part of England. Most famously, Old Trafford hosted Ariana Grande’s One Love Manchester Concert after the deadly suicide bombing in her show at the Manchester Arena in 2019. It was attended by over 55,000 people and the proceeds went to the families of the victims.

Edgbaston has a reputation for being hostile to touring teams given the raucous support for the home side there, but recent years have seen Asian sides also draw huge support thanks to the Asian dysporia in the city.

EDGBASTON (BIRMINGHAM)

Located in Birmingham in the West Midlands, Edgbaston is home to Warwickshire County Cricket Club. It is also a popular venue for international fixtures and played host to the first-ever women’s T20 event at the Commonwealth Games in the 2022 edition where Australia won the gold medal match, beating India in the final.

Edgbaston has a reputation for being hostile to touring teams given the raucous support for the home side there, but recent years have seen Asian sides also draw huge support thanks to the Asian dysporia in the city.
